Mr. Buffa was one of the founders of MILCOM and
served as Chairman of the Board and CEO until he semi-retired in
2005. MILCOM is a private equity company that does venture creation
with technology it licenses from federal agencies, such as military
contractors and federal labs. MILCOM also manages a venture fund,
OnPoint Technologies (www.onpoint.us), for the U.S. Army. He
has over 30 years of experience working in a variety of positions
in several commercial companies to include engineering, service support,
sales, marketing and general management.
During his tenure (1998 to 2005) as CEO of MILCOM
the company started up thirteen companies that attracted over $600
million in investment capital and won a highly competitive contract
from the U.S. Army to manage a $40 million venture fund - OnPoint.
OnPoint has made several investments in new ventures with other major
venture capitalists since its inception in 2003.
Mr. Buffa has been involved in starting-up over
a dozen high-tech ventures to include one IPO and restarting a public
company. He has worked in large corporate environments, like Honeywell
(13 years) and very small start-ups where he was the founder and
first employee.
Mr. Buffa's background specifically includes experience
in computer automation, software, process control, neural networks,
artificial intelligence, machine vision, robotics, Internet, telecommunications,
semiconductor fabrication, and financial services. He developed numerous
successful technology related business models and businesses. In
particular, he has had considerable success in developing businesses
that involve finding the intersection of unique technologies to emerging
and innovation markets.
Mr. Buffa has served as President & COO -
Nestor, Inc, General Manager - Electronics Division of Machine Vision
International, Vice-President - Sales and Marketing for Computer
Products Inc., National Sales Manager – Honeywell and Service
Support Manager Europe - Honeywell Corporate.
He has served on several boards to include MILCOM
Chairman, Mesh Networks Chairman (acquired by Motorola) ZMP, Theseus,
Teranex, Centerpoint, Softmountain, sLs Learning Systems and Nestor,
Inc.
Mr. Buffa attended West Point (Class of 69) and
earned his degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of
West Virginia. While an executive with Honeywell, Mr. Buffa also
participated in the executive MBA program at Rutgers University.
In 1989, The Wall Street Journal cited Mr. Buffa
as one of sixty-six CEOs "poised to lead business in the 90's".
