Dr. Robert Bernath is a Business Development Consultant and Research Scientist at the UCF UCF Venture Accelerator in the Office of Research and Commercialization. Here, he coaches early-stage companies on intellectual property feasibility, investment opportunities, corporate formation, business plans, proposal writing, commercial viability, and overcoming technical challenges. Robert also assists UCF’s Office of Technology Transfer with patent evaluation, technical research and design, and commercial potential assessments. In addition, he is a serial entrepreneur having started several companies.
Robert’s specific technical expertise includes high-peak-power lasers, and the interaction technologies associated with their use. His background also includes x-ray generation, EUV generation, material processing, laser design and construction, laser plasma modeling, and femtosecond pulse propagation through the atmosphere and the interaction effects respectively.
Dr. Bernath received a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering / Photonics from UCF in 2007. He received a Master’s of Science in Optics in 2004 from UCF, and Bachelor’s of Science in Engineering Physics in 2002 from Jacksonville University. Three issued patents, seven pending patents, fifty-six technical publications and presentations, and several startup companies in the last decade demonstrate Robert’s passion for science and entrepreneurship.
